These helpful tips will keep you safe and let you fully enjoy everything The Marianas has to offer!
A wide brim hat offers good sun protection for your eyes, ears, face, neck – areas that are particularly prone to overexposure to the sun.
Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing as much as possible. Tightly woven cloth is best, but any clothing is better than none at all.
Apply, at minimum, SPF 15+ broad spectrum sunscreen to all exposed areas of the skin. Reapplied liberally every two hours.
Be sure your sunglasses protect against UVA & UVB radiation. Wraparound sunglasses are best to protect your eyes from all angles.
Swimming in the ocean can be a challenge, so be sure you know how to swim in the surf. If you are swimming at a lifeguard-protected beach, obey all instructions from lifeguards, and stay within the designated swimming area.
Check the local weather conditions and stay alert. Swim sober and never swim alone. And even if you’re confident in your swimming skills, make sure you have enough energy to swim back to shore.
Young children and inexperienced swimmers should wear approved life jackets in and around the water. No one should use any other type of floatation device unless they are able to swim.
Pay close attention to children and elderly persons when at the beach. Even in shallow water, waves and tides can cause a loss of footing.
When at the beach, check conditions before entering the water. Check to see if any warning signs are up or ask a lifeguard about water conditions, beach conditions, or any potential hazards.
