This observance underscores the importance of responsible fishing practices, with particular emphasis on recreational fishing, while also acknowledging the roles of commercial and subsistence fishing in sustaining our communities. Fishers’ Recognition Week honors the historic and ongoing contributions of our local fishing community and promotes greater awareness of responsible recreational fishing practices that support marine conservation.
